The ten workshops in this series will provide you with a number of tips, and tools to assist you in your job search. Whether you are just beginning your job search journey or exploring a new career path, the topics in this series will provide you with valuable information to make that next step.

Workshop dates:

  • Monday, January 4, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Are you ready? What does it take to begin a new job? Whether you are a first-time job seeker or an experienced member of the workforce switching roles there are certain nuances to think about if you are a person with a vision impairment. We will provide a general overview of many specific topics such as accessible technology, orientation and mobility, transferrable skills as well as others. Come with all your questions and leave armed with knowledge and the information to start your new position or transition to new employment.
  • Thursday, January 7, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Taking Mystery out of Job Postings. Over half of the jobs employers hire for are from the hidden job market. Don’t know what that is then come find out in this workshop. We will explore where to look for the latest postings. We will explain different techniques for finding and applying for employment. Finally, we will also touch on the art of asking for feedback. Your next interview could be just a few clicks away.
  • Monday, January 11, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Resumes. This workshop will include what should and shouldn’t be covered in a resume, the types of resumes, as well as the necessary key commands used to assist in formatting your own resume.
  • Thursday, January 14,  2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Uncovering the Cover Letter.  This workshop will review the parts of a cover letter, cover letter dos and don’ts, and tips on formatting your cover letter.
  • Monday, January 18, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Body Talks/Non-Verbal Communications At Work. This workshop reviews several important social cues that many people experience in the workplace, as well as some tips and tricks for positive body language. It will also cover body language does and don’ts.
  • Thursday, January 21, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Workplace Accommodations & Assistive Technology. This workshop will review some available technology for the workplace, preparing your accommodation requests, and advocating for your needs.
  • Monday, January 25, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Disclosure and Disability Statements. This workshop provides information on the process of disclosing your disability to an employer should you choose, the pros and cons of disclosure, and how to create a positive disclosure statement that can be shared with employers.
  • Thursday, January 28,  2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Networking. In this workshop learn to become comfortable being uncomfortable. Meeting new people can be difficult for some. Find out how to put your best face forward to potential employers. We will also explore how the Covid pandemic has changed the landscape of networking from in-person to virtual. Who knows, you could meet your next employer in this session or even your next best friend.
  • Monday, February 4, 2-3:30 p.m. Atlantic Time. Session: Interview Skills Part 1. Interviews are an important part of the hiring process and can make or break your chances of getting that dream job. This workshop will cover what employers are looking for during the hiring process, specifically during an interview. It will also cover the types of interviews as well as helping you to prepare for your best interview yet!
